Will the wood be pre-treated?
Landmark Landscapes only use high-quality pre-treated timber for all of our fence and gate installations. This ensures long-lasting durability, resistance to rot and minimal maintenance.
How long will my new fence last for?
Pre-treated timber fences are designed for long-lasting performance and offer excellent resistance to rot, decay and insect damage. On average, a professionally installed pre-treated timber fence can last 15 to 20 years or more, depending on the type of wood used, level of treatment, environmental conditions and ongoing maintenance. Although the timber is pre-treated, regular cleaning, staining or sealing every few years can help preserve the fence's appearance and structural integrity.
Do I need a gravel board?
Installing a gravel board is highly recommended for any new timber fence. Gravel boards act as a protective barrier between your wooden fence panels and the ground, helping to prevent rot, damp and insect damage by keeping the timber away from direct contact with soil.
How do I maintain my new fence?
Proper maintenance is key to keeping your timber fences and gates looking great and performing well for many years.
- Inspect your fences and gates regularly and make any required repairs before they become bigger issues.
- Clean your fences annually with a stiff brush to remove dirt and algae. Keeping panels clean helps prevent moisture retention and decay.
- Apply a quality wood preservative, stain or paint every 2-3 years to protect against moisture, UV damage and insects. Choose a product suitable for pre-treated timber.
- Trim back plants, soil, leaves or mulch that sit against the base of the fence to promote good airflow and reduce moisture build-up.
- Use gravel board to keep fence panels off the ground.
Do I need to tell my neighbours I'm having a new fence?
We highly recommend you speak with your neighbours before installing a new fence, especially if the fence is on or near a shared boundary. Communicating well helps prevent disputes and maintains good relationships.

Landmark Landscapes can supply and install bespoke timber gates tailored to suit your property. We can custom build a made-to-measure timber gate for front entrance gates, side access gates or matching garden gates. Whatever gate you need, we can make it!
